چکیده

Introduction Spasticity is a motor disorder characterized by a velocitydependent increase in tonic stretch reflexes [1], commonly seen in many neurological disorders. Clinically, spasticity is measured by an examiner rotating a joint and simultaneously estimating the resistance according to an ordinal scale. However, the limited reliability of the measurement and the impossibility to discriminate between the underlying neural (stretch reflex) and non-neural (i.e. muscle mechanics) contributions have been the motivation to develop methods describing resistance joint torque quantitatively. The aim of this preliminary study is to develop a forward neuromusculoskeletal model consisting of the explicit musculotendon, muscle spindle, and motoneuron pool, which can simulate the passive isokinetic ankle dorsiflexion test of spasticity.

The immediate effects of dry needling for ankle and toe plantar flexors on spasticity and balance in patients with stroke

Background: Spasticity is one of the most important symptoms of stroke, which leads to movement constraints and disability. The presence of spasticity in the ankle and toe plantar flexor muscles disturbs the balance and gait of patients with stroke. Dry needling has been introduced as a new method for the treatment of spasticity. The aim of this study was to investigate the immediate effects of...

Comparison between the Short Term and Durability Effects of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Exercise and Instrument Assisted soft Tissue Mobilization Technique on Ankle-Dorsiflexion Range of Motion

Introduction: Reduced lower extremity range of motion and movement leads to a decrease in movement efficiency; accordingly, it is vital to maintain the range of motion to prevent damage and improve functions. The purpose of this study was to compare the short term and durability effects of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) t...

Examining the Role of the Gastrocnemius During the Leg Curl Exercise

This study examined the moment-producing capabilities of the gastrocnemius during isokinetic knee flexion tasks. Nine healthy men were tested using a Biodex isokinetic dynamometer. Each one completed 3 maximum repetitions at 3 angular velocities, 30, 75, and 150o/s, with his ankle braced in either full dorsiflexion or full plantar flexion. A computer model was used to simulate the experimental ...

The Effect of Thera-Band Resistive Exercises on Pain, Dynamic Balance, and Function of Amateur Teenage Basketball Players

Aims and background: With respect to the prevalence of ankle injuries due to the decrease in range of motion of dorsiflexion, and to the lack of proper function in foot and/or lack of balance among basketball players, utilizing exercise plans is of great importance. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate the effect of eight weeks of thera-band exercises on the range of motion on pain...

Eccentric plantar-flexor torque deficits in participants with functional ankle instability.

CONTEXT Inversion ankle sprains can lead to a chronic condition called functional ankle instability (FAI). Limited research has been reported regarding isokinetic measures for the plantar flexors and dorsiflexors of the ankle. OBJECTIVE To examine the isokinetic eccentric torque measures of the ankle musculature in participants with stable ankles and participants with functionally unstable an...
